Seccombe and Son, wo believe has the claim at present to that position. ' ; A Correspondent inquires: "What is the exact dis- • tance by road from the General Post-office, Auckland/ to Alexander's Gate, BirdgTove, Epsom From about three-and-a-half to. upwards of four miles, according to the route chosen. Three routes are available—by Upper Queen, or and Symonds-streets and Kyber Pass-road; by the Beach-road, throughParnell, by Newmarket; and by way of Shortlandstreet, through Parnell and Newmarket,, which seems' to be the snortest route, though there are several steep hills encountered by thia way, •
