SHIPPING RETURNS.
The following is the complete list of shipping returns for the quarter ended to-day :
There were 39 vessels, with an aggregate ton. nage of 28,501 tons, carrying 1255 :uen, cleared out with cargo; and 11 vessels, of 5560 tons with 13 men, cleared in ballast. All the vessels entering inwards brought cargoes.

Her dimensions are : Length of keel, / o fpft • beam, 20 feet; and will carry about 60,000 feet of timber; draught of water when 10 On Mondav, December 15, there was launched from the yards of Messrs. Niccol and Son North Shore, a neat and handy little screw steamer, for Captain McGregor, winch is m- , tended to trade in harbours on the Gorist which have, up to the present, been debarred from such a medium of communication with Auckland. The steamer was originally laid down for the Wairoa trade, but was recently purchased by Captain McGregor to run between Mercury Bay, Tairua, and Tauranga, collecting car"o, &c., for the steamer Glenelg. The ceremony of christening the craft was performed by Miss Mary Niccol, the daughter of the senior member of the firm of builders, who J;» e orthodox manner, named the vessel tue*' n = al - The steamer measures 70 feet over all, 13 feet beam, and 6 feet depth of hold, and wiU register about 40 tons. _ Notice to Mariners.—No. 60 of loi J. inhibition of flashing white light on Akaroa Head, Banks Peninsula, Eastern Coast of Middle Island, New Zealand. Marine Department, Wellington, New Zealand, 9th December, 15/ J : With reference to tho preliminary notice issued by this department, dated the 16th day of August last, it is hereby notified that, on and after Thursday, the Ist day of January, ISSO, a light will be exhibited from the lighthouse which has been erected an Akaroa Head, the position and characteristic of which are as follow The Akaroa Head Lighthouse is situated on Akaroa Head, at the eastern side of the entrance to Akaroa Harbour, Banks Peninsula. Tho tower is 2S feet in height, and is built of timber and painted whit:;. The light will ba a second order fiashiivj white light, visible all round as far as the land admits, and will show a flash every 10 seconds. The light will be elevated about 270 fee. 1 ; above the sea, and allowing 15 feet for the height of the eye. will be seen at a distance of 2"? S-lOths nautic miles in clear weather, and at lesser distances according to the state of the atmosphere.—H. A. Atkinson.
