Tho p.s. * Manawatu * has just had her machinery thoroughly overhauled and her bottom painted, and is in excellent order. A tender has been accepted by E. W. Mills for new cylinders for s.s. ' Stormbird," which is expected to be completed before the day or sale. The s.s. 'Jane Douglas'is only about three years old, with compound engines, is a very handy vessel, and very economical in ccal. The hulk * European ' is built of hardwood, and will hold about 1200 tons of coaL A net profit of over £5000 sterling was made last year on the working account, as shewn by the balancesheet recently issued.
