A meeting • i-uv-- a-tilers of Waipu was held in the Central School-house, on Wednesday, 26th February, for the purpose of establishing steam communication between Auckland, Waipu, aud Maungawai. Mr. T. M. McKenzie, on being voted to the chair, briefly explained the objects of the meeting, and a letter fr«>m Messrs. McKenzia and Ross, of Auckland, to the effect that a boat suitable for the trade would cost £3000, and that it would be desirable for the settlers to subscribe for shares in a Steamboat Company, at least, to the amoant of £2000. The following resolutions were carried unanimously : —That a company be formed, to be called " The Auckland, Waipu and Maugawai Steam Navigation Company," for the purpose of developing the trade of those dietiict-; that the capital of the said couipauy be £3000, in GOO shares of £5 each ; that a committee of seven be appointed, as a provisional committee, to receive proposals for shares, and to confer with the people of Mangiwai; that the committee consist of the following gentlemen:— Messrs. M. T. McKenzit*, M. McGregor, A. P. Campbell, M. McLeod (J.P.), A. McKay, J. Jacob, and D. McKay. A vote of thanks was then passed to the chairman, and tho meeting broke up after forty shares had beeu taken up by those in the room.— [A Correspondent.]
