PENALTY FOR BITING OFF AN EAR.
TO TIIK EDITOR. Snv —I lately saw in your paper (February 8) an account of a hideous wretch, named (Jharles O'Brieu, who hay not only savagely beaten aud kicked his wife, but bitten oIF ono of licr ears. It may ojat the poor woman her life; if not, it may cause some incurable disease. If this man is fined, according to the fashion of the day, he will pay the lino out of any scanty sum his wife may happen to have, aud thereby her allowance of bread will be shortened. Allow mo to ask, do you not think tbo proper puuishment for this offence would be that his teeth should be extracted? If people use their teeth to bite off their wife's ear, the sooner they are deprived of them the better, and I make bold to thiuk that some of your readers will agree with ime ia this opinion. This plan would have the great merit of disabling liiui from repeating the offence,—lam, &c., IXQuritEii.
