SPORTS AT ELLERSLIE.
The sports held at Elleralie Racecourse yesterday, under the auspices of the Tradesmen's Athletic Club, in conjunction with the committee of the Agricultural Show, was a grand success, and it was admitted on all sides that better sport had never been seen in Auckland. It was estimated that at one period of the races there were not less than 2000 persons on the ground, and so anxious were many of the spectators to see the events, that some difficulty was experienced in keeping the course clear. The ground was in splendid order, and the running consequently fast, and the close finishes in nearly every event indicates how trnly the capabilities of each competitor had been gauged by the handicappers, whose judgment was fully appreciated. Pressure of space compells us to be brief in our remarks on each event. Starter, Mr. E. Nolan ; judge, Mr. J. H. Palmer ; referees, Messrs. O'Leary and Adams; handicappers, Messrs. Edmonds, Hume, and Ball; secretary, Mr. R. E. Ellis.
