An adjourned- meeting' of the Trade. and Labonr.Councilwas held at the Forresters Anne Hotel, Albert-atreet, 6a Saturday night,—Mr. Phillips, iii the chair..; Thin association was formed six months ago, and consists of delegates from • 'various trade societies, the object of the association being to'ondeavoiir to prevent any society/or trade frotn rashly rushing into, disputes with'enjployers. Satisfactory progress has been made since the formation of .the OouaciL Delegates from six trade societies were present, representing 1026 members. A balance-" sheet was submitted from, the Operative Painters Society, \ whose members had-de-manded a uuifoiiu ratei>f wages of 9a a day. This their masters would not agree to. In the absence of an-.equitable adjustment oE the_ dispute, an: appeal was made to the various trade societies, :and sufficient capital was furnished to '.[-. form a Co-operative Painters' Shop," thus enabling the naintersto obtain work for themselves. This relief had exceeded their utmost expectation, and the I corporation is now in possession of a welletocked shop, and'aUitheir members are fully employed, although only established six weeks. After the re-election of officers, the. meeting adjourned. .
