He considered it advisable that one-half or three-quarters of the whole number should be put in some stream near Auckland, so that the society should not in. the future have to depend upon the South for supplies of breeding fish. A discussion ensued as to the most suitable place in which to deposit the fish. Hay's Creek at Papakura and Henderson's Mill Creek were suggested. One gentleman stated that the creek at Henderson's Mill had already received a supply. It was at length proposed by Mr. Firth, seconded by Mr. Macffarlane, and carried, " That 250 be sent to the Bay of Plenty district, 250 to Poverty Bay, and 250 to the Waikato."— Mr. Firth stated that as it was his intention to proceed to the Waikato at an early date, he would be quite willing to take charge of the consignment for that place. Salmon Ova.—Mr. Firth wished for some information in regard to the salmon ova expected from California. —The Secretary, in reply, said he had written to the secretary of the Californian Acclimatisation Society, asking him to place the Auckland consignment in the ice-house in which the ova intended for Melbourne were to be conveyed. The steamer by which they were expected to arrive was to leave San Francisco in October, and would reach Auckland in November.
