Ths case of assault on board the Fleur do Maurice, which was remanded from Whangaroa .to Russell, has turned out not to be of so' serious a nature as" was" at first apprehended. The medical examination proved the injury inflicted to ba of so trivial a nature that the magistrate here did not think it necessary to send the case on to a higher Court. The blow was struck under great provocation, and the prisoner having voluntarily paid all expenses (over £20), the case was not pressed, and the Fleur de Maurice sailed from here on Monday last. Mr. John Williams, M.11.11., purposes meeting his constituents at Russell on the 12th November, and intends, so soon afterwards as possible, to visit Wliangaroa, Mongonui, and Hokianga for the same purpose. Kawakawa Co-operative Society (Limited). —The third quarterly meeting of this Society was held in the school-room at the mines on the 21st October, a large number of shareholders being present. The usual dividend was declared, and a bonus of 2s in the pound on the purchases during the quarter. Honorariums were awarded to the principal officers and the auditors.
