POLICE COURT.—Wednesday.

[Before Dr. Home and W. J. Hurst, Esq., Justices.] Drunkenness.—Five persons pleaded guilty of this offence, and -were each fined os and costs. . Ass.vuur. —Mary Dogherty was charged with having violently assaulted Catherine Dogherty. The prisoner pleaded guilty of having struck the complainant, who was her daughter, and was 23 years of age, but said that she had first been struck by her. The complainant staggered to and entered the witness box, sobbing most piteously. The grief was contagious, and the prisoner joined her daughter in the wail of sorrow. The complainant in accents broken with convulsive sobs, said that she did not wish to press the charge against her mother. luspector Broham said that it was a case which had called for the interference of the police, and he thought it should be proceeded with. The Bench also thought it was a case which should be gone on with. On hearing this the complainant fainted and fell from the box on the Hoor, and was carried out of Court by the police. The prisoner was then remanded, and the case will come on for hearing on Thursday morning.— Sam Antonia was charged on remand with assault, but the complainant stated to the Bench that the account she had given of the assault to the police was untrue, and t'ae case was dismissed.

Larceny.—Ann Campbell and \Yillir,m and Francis Campbell were charged that they did, on or about the 17th of Aiigujt, feloniously steal one purse, containing certain moneys, to the value of £4S, the property of William Henry Crow. Inspector Broham said that lie would be prepared to proceed with the case ou Thursday, and the prisoners were accordingly remanded until Thursday morning.

Assault.—John Gibbs and Jolui Kishon were charged with having assaulted John Richard on board the ship \Vaikato, by striking liini with their fists cn the night of the 20th inst. The only evidence in support of the charge was the complainant's statement, and it was dismissed.
