THE AUCKLAND IMPROVEMENT COMMISSION.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Improvement Commissioners was held yesterday afternoon, at the offices of the Commissioners. Present Messrs. John Sheehan (in the chair), T. Eeale, T. Macready, and S. Joues. IILS-UTES. The minutes were read and confirmed. 31ES9E3. BBOWN, CAMPBEEL AND CO.'S EEOPBEXT. A letter was read from Messrs. Brown, Campbell and Co., in reference to the property under offer by them to tho Commissioners, in which they stated that they could not leave their offer of the 13th December open to the acceptation indefinitely at any time within seven years —the time specified by the Act— and that meanwhile they could not allow valuable property to remain unproductive, upon no better guarantee than tho assurance I of the Commissioners that the communication between Shortland and Fort-stresta will be made at os early a period as possible within the time specified by the Act. They further stated that as the Commissioners had declined virtually to enter into any definite agreement, they declined to give possession of any of the buildings on their land until such time as si-'ted their own convenic-nee, or until the termination of any lease which they may secure to recoup the heavy loss they are sustaining.—Mr. Heale moved that the secretary reply to Messrs. Brown, Campbell and Co., pointing out that the Commissioners were guite prepared to enter into the agreement proposed by Messrs. Brown, Campbell and Co., on tho settlement of Messrs. Winks and Halt's claim. VALTJATOE. A letter was read from the Buglsciar of the Supreme Court, intimating that M-. J. P. Du Moulin had been appointed by him valuator for the purposes of the Auckland Improvement Act, 1573, and that hi 3 K: jllci.'cy !' r Governor in Council had been pierced to approve of the appointment.
