A COAT OF ARMS FOR NEW ZEALAND.

Sib, —I hi>Yo been much interested in the representation of the donkey—New Zealand, tiundling with boxes, bags and baggage, all secured by a Maori on top, like a pole securing a load of hay, with a studious official before it with the Income Tax in prospect, and an earnejt official in chase at its tail, seemingly behind time, to throw a poll tax among tho medley. The whole puts one in mind of the story of the Righlandman, out at night. Re was beset by swarms of the evil spirits from the nether)world, or " bocans" as they call them in his country. In his terror he bawled out at the top of his voice, that the bocans were onjhis right and on hiß left, below and above him, before and behind him, so that there was no esoape. Now, without saying much in passing: as regards the considerate and ingenious caricaturist, whoever he may be, he is, I think, worthy of being recognised for bringing so vividly before the public the maltreatment of tha over-patient animal—l would not say bruie —in consideration of what is implied. "Under all the above oircumstances, Mr. Editor, would itnot be very suitable to have the donkey with its towering burden, for a coat of arms for the colony of New Zealand, heading all the royal gazettes in place of the lion and the unicorn; and an appropriate insignia it would be at the head of Mr. Hall's financial statement, a heap of constitutional corruption beautifully systemised by a master-hand worthy of a better regime to guide him. And instead of ■' JDicu tt mon droit," to substitute for a motto, " Am 1 not thine ass on whfth thou hast ridden since I was'thine ? 11" —Yours, &c., A Bsothbß Mora.
