PROVINCIAL COUNCIL.

Thb Council met yesterday at the usual hour. In reply to a question by Mr. 8011, the Provincial Secretary said there were no restrictions in force affecting the exportation of cattle to theNorth of the' Province of Auckland. Mr. Davy's motion, " That in the opinion of the Council, while recognising the necessity of a change in the form of Government, no change should be made which would deprive the Council of its legitimate power to legislate for the local government of the Province." was agreed to on a division. Ayes 15 ; noes 9. The petitions of Edwin Stanley Brooks and Mrs. Matson were referred to the Petitions Committee. Interim report No. 4 of the Petitions Committee was adopted. The motion "That the license fees should be paid over to the City Board," was negatived. The Council resolved itself into committee of supply, and proceeded to consider the estimates. The £150 for the half-year was voted for the salary of the Law Officer. Provincial Accountant £150; Clerk in Superintentendent's Office, £100, expunged ; Clerk of Records, £100, agreed to; Messengers, £31, agreed to. The items under the head of Provincial Council were voted, with the exception of the Speaker's salary, reduced to £100 for the halfyear. The Council adjourned at a quarter to & o'clock until 3 o'clock this day.
