LAUNCH OF THE AMERICA.
A fine cutter of 47 feet keel and about 40 tons register, w»s nio-t successfully launched from tho building yard of Mr. -cott, Mahurangi, at 11 o clock on Tuesday morning last. The day was beautifully line, and a lurge concourse, (nearly loO), of people were present to witness tho launch ; just at 1 1 o'clock the dogshores were knocked. The noble craft was christened in the usual manner by Mi.'S McLiver, The America, and site glided nobly into her native el-ment, amidst tiv cheers of those assembled. The a semblage then retired to Mr Scott s house, where a sumptuous dinner awaited them, and to which ample justice was done. Various sports wore entered into during the afternoon, and the day's enjoymef.t wound up with a ball m the evening, dancing being kept up with unllagging vigjur 'ill daylight yesterd iv morning. The America has been built to the order of Mr. McLiver, and is intended for the Hokitika trado. She may be expected up from Mahurangi about Saturday next, and will at once lay on for the diggings. Two more cutters will bo launched at Mahurangi in about two months' time, one of 42 tons, from Darrock's vard. and the other 40 tons, from Mr. Short's yard.—lbid, Oct. 12.
