IMPRISONMENT FOR DEBT.
We understand that one of the debtors, who has been cofined in gaol for upwards of five months, at the suit of a respectable firm here, is now in a very dangerous state of health, and that his medical attendants are of* opinion that his illness is caused by his pro-^jf longed imprisonment,, and must prove fatal ft
unless the cause is removed by his being released. This poor man was burned out in November, 1842, and called his creditors together, offering arrangements about August last, which were agreed to be received by all but his detaining creditors. Since his arrest we understand he has made overtures to his detaining creditors, who have refused to release him except on payment of the whole amount. Should this man die in gaol, a Coroner's Inquest must necessarily be held, in which case our readers shall be furnished with all particulars. *
