POLICE COURT—Wednesday.
(Before Jam s Naugiiton, I sq., J.P.) Drunkards. —John Smithies, Patrick Donohno, David Moncricff, and Catherine Quinn, were fined 40s. and costs or forty-eight hours. John Johnston was committed for nine days. Assault.—The charg* ot having committed an aggravated assault, preferred against Alice Chamberlain, was adjourned un ! il Friday, in consequence of the illness of the Resident Magistrate. Nuisance.—The hearing of the charge preferred against W. Walters, by the Clerk of the City Board was also adjourned anti I Friday. Mr. J. B. Russell said the defendant was willing to plead.guilty, and wished that a nominal fine might be inflicted, so as to save further att ndance before the Court. Mr. Naaghton expressed his recrret that it was out of his power to comply with the learned Counsel's request. Desertion. —Daniel Russell was charged with being a deserter from the 14th regiment, and an order was made for his being handed over to the main guard.
