POLICE COURT— Monday.

(Before Titos. Beckham, Esq., R.M.) Duck Stealing.— Thomas Glynn, William Smith, Eugene Banks, ami George Jones, four lads from ten. ■ to twelve years of age, were arraigned in the dock, charged with stealing two ducks from the premises of Wiliiam Mitchell, five ducks from the prem’ses of Robert Brown, and four from Sarah Wright. The prisoners severally pleaded guilty to each charge. His Worship desired the ducks then in the possession of the police to be returned to their respective owners. His Worship said that the Court was placed in a difficult position with regard to these boys ; they evidently were steeped in crime, having been several times previously brought before the Court. Were the Beach to deal with them to the fuff extent of iis power, they would be subjected to two years’^imprisonment. Ha should remand them until to-morrow, and in the meantime would consider what would be best to do to them. He was afraid, however, that they would have to be imprisoned. It was to be hoped that ■ udng the I next session of the Assembly a law would be enacted | which would give the power of dealing more satisfacI torily with juvenile offenders of this description; they | required to be dealt with as they were at home, viz., I well flogged. His Worship severely censured the 1 parents of the prisoners, remarking that it was through their vices that their children were subjected to the pp. sent charge. Vagrant. - John Hannigan, an old offender, evidently in u wretched state of destitution, was ordered to be imprisoned for two months. Illegally on Premises.— Robert Galloway, charged with being illegally on the premises of Charles Davis, being the worse for liquor at the time, was ordered to find two sureties for his good behaviour for the next six months in the sum of £SO each. / The Court then adjourned.
