MAORIS IN AMERICA.

Per Press Association. Wellington, Sept. 2., . Farmer Whyte, manager of the Rotorua Maori troupe, returned by the Mokoia from the United States with 27 Maoris. Thirteen of the party that left on tour returned last month. In an interview Mr Whytc says the tour was a financial success for the Maoris, and it was also of great educational value. Trouble' arose over Sunday performances, or the engagement terms stipulated no Sunday work, qut the troupe was sublet in New York for performances in Chicago, and legal proceedings being too costly and uncertain, Maoris had to perform on Sundays under this subletting arrangement. Had they (been willing to perform on Sundays the tour could have extended for file months more. All returned well, and Wliyte speaks highly of the behaviour of the Maori Committee assisting him.
