THE OAMARU HOSPITAL.

A meeting of the Hospital Committre was held lost night, when there wrro present : Mr Mainland (Prcaident. in tho chair), and Mo«rs Allan, M'Douall, Shrlimkl, Headland, and Peattie. The minutes of Iho previous < rliuaty and publ'c meetinga were read and confirmed. The Medical SuperintenlenTa report Bhowed that during the month 11 pation's had been admitted, 9 discharged, and 11 remained — 9 males and 2 females. A letter wrb read from Mr R. 11. Govelt, tf the Premier's office, scknowleiging the receipt of petition praying that the Oamaru Hospital might be declared a neparato imti'ution, and asking if provisions of sectun»37 and 38 of the Hospitals and Chamtable Aid Act had boen complied with, and also whether Iho aubecriptionß had beon received eince the Act camo into force, /c. the Ist of October laat. It waa reaolved that a reply should be forwarded intimating that the information sought for waa embodied in the documents sent.

The collector'a atatement showed that L 155 7« in donations and subscriptions had bron received for tho month.

The Visiting Committee reported that they had visited tho institution, and found everything in satisfactory order. The patients had expressed themselves ns pleased with the treatment they nceired. The thankß of the Committeo were due to Mra Clowea for her usual gift of illuatrated puperß ; to Mr William Bee for a large oaka ; to Mr John Falconer for a pig ; and to the Rev. Mr Seth-Smith for a quantity of fruit. Tho Warden had reported to the committee that the spouting of the roof and verandah nquired repahlng, which the committes recommended ibould be done. Accounts amounting to L 44 Gi were recommended to bo passed for payment.

Tho report waa adopted. Mr C. G. Moore, agent for New Zealand for Kent's alto carbon grs burners, wrote forwarding testimonials regarding the saving of gas nncl the improvement in the light by the use of the albo-c*rbon, and requesting that the committee allow him to fit up tho Hospital with it. On the motion of Mr Shrimski, aeconded by Mr Peattie, it wbh resolved that Mr Moore'a letter and accompanying testimonials lie ou the table till next meeting.

Mr Headland, nt tho request of Mr BUIb, manufacturer of spiral wire mattreoseß, Dunedin, brought before the C>mmittee a model mattresa, and stated that Mr Bills had informed him that ho had fitted up the Timaru llrspital with Biich mattreesps. Tho Committee took no no'ion in the matter.
