CHRISTCHURCH. April 5:

Tho Philosophical Institute intend holding a conversazione shortly, at which a special feature will be the representation of local industries. Tho City Council have appointed a committee to assist. The second section of the tramway line was commenced to-day from Cathedral square to Papanui. In consequence of the great inconvenience of obstruction to traffic during the construction of tho first section, the City Council have determined to appoint an official supervision of the work. Mr Fenwick, however, was not advised, and arrived tonight by trait), being ignorant of tho withdrawal, and had his journey for nothing.
