POWER BREAKDOWN

Boy’s Escapade A serious breakdown in the electric power supply was caused yesterday afternoon between the hours of 4.28 p.m. and 5.25 p.m. by the act of a boy who threw a piece «f bamboo across tile high tension wires near the Kaitaia District High School. These wires carry a voltage of 11,000 and the stick crossing them caused them to burn through by short circuit, and they then dropped to the ground. Fortunately there was no one there at the time upon whom these wires could have dropped. Had there been anyone underneath a fatal accident would have been the result. The whole of the area north of the sub-station was affected by the cutoff, but the break was repaired with all speed by members of the staff of the Power Board.
