AIR SERVICE
SMART TRIP Passengers by air yesterday were somewhat inconvenienced by disruption of the schedule between Kaitaia and Auckland and return. The regular Lockheed Electra plane I was undergoing overhaul and air ! tests were not finished in time for j the machine to take up regular flights and as a result, passengers from j Auckland for the north by early ! plane were sent on by car. The second flight, due to leave at about 11.40 a.m. was also delayed owing to the same reason, and passengers for Whangarei were also sent from Whenuapai by car, whilst those for Kaikohe and Kaitaia were held at the air base until a Lockheed Lodestar arrived from Palmerston North. It took off for the northern-destina-tion at 3.57 p.m. and arrived at Kaitaia at 5.5 p.m. after having landed at Kaikohe to pick up passengers i who had started out as passengers on the morning flight. Also travellers from Kaikohe to Auckland were emplaned, as it was intended that the return flight to Auckland was to be made non-stop. Passengers travelling yesterday | realised that everything was being j done by the N.A.C. for their comfort, convenience and safety, and no one 1 seemed to be particularly put out by j the experience, in fact, the incidence | of the larger plane was much appre- | ciated in comfort and smoothness of I travel.
