Northland Federation of Women’s Institutes

Bi-annual Meeting Held at Peria on Saturday last, the bi-annual meeting of the Northland Federation of Women’s Institutes attracted an attendance of over 100 members from 14 branches, including one junior branch. The meeting opened with the Institute Ode sung by members and played by Miss T. Christensen, this being followed by the Aspirations. The President, Mrs. Shalders, welcomed members and explained that November meetings were international days at branch meetings when we should study the womenfolk of some other country and endeavour to reach a closer understanding of them. Two new W.I. branches were welcomed. The Secretary then read the halfyearly report, including individual reports from branches. The Treasurer’s report showed a satisfactory state of finances. Delegates to the conference gained a lot of experience and proved of valuable assistance to their particular branches. “ The President thanked the Peria Institute for the use of the hall and acting as hostesses ; she also thanked the judges of displays—Misses T. Christensen and Davies of the Kaitaia High School, Taipa Institute for taking charge of the stall, Kaitaia for the play produced and Pukepoto Jnr. for items rendered. A display of handcraft work will be staged in Kaitaia early in the New Year. A discussion on a suitable type of war memorial took place. The play produced by the Kaitaia branch followed the luncheon recess.
