CRICKET DRAW Saturday, 21st December SENIOR i Nomads v. Peria at Mangataiore v. Kaitaia at Kaitaia. Victoria Valley a bye. JUNIOR Peria v. Nomads at Victoria Valley. Senior FIRST INNINGS VICTORY TO NOMADS W. Hoddle Plays Dashing Innings With a first innings victory over Victoria Valley on %he High School ground last Saturday, Nomads now lead the first round with Mangataiore with 14 points apiece. It proved to be a most enjoyable game, the highlight of which was an entertaining century by W. Hoddle. He took just over the hour to score his 102 which included eleven fours and six sixers. With one or two on the board he gave a difficult chance behind the stumps but otherwise it was a 'chanceless innings. Hoddle showed a fine range of shots all around the wicket. Nomads had first use of the wicket and Baker and Maddock opened. Maddock went early, caught behind, but Baker and Hoddle added 81 for the second wicket, the former batting over one hour and a half for 29. Findlay, Bauer and J. Beazley all batted well but the tail collapsed, the last five batsmen contributing only 12 runs. N. Panther and G. Dawson bore the brunt of Valley’s attack and they bowled really well, both keeping an excellent length. N. Panther’s 8 for 65 was backed up by sound fielding. L. Foster and F. Panther opened quietly for the Valley against Eales and Findlay. Runs proved hard to get but nevertheless they gave the Valley a good start. Panther contributed a valuable 33 before being well caught by Taffard. R. Coulter batted confidently for 19 while G. Dawson opened his shoulders for 20. Findlay with 4 for 29 was the most successful bowler. Valley followed on but at stumps they were only 2 wickets down for 42, giving Nomads a first innings victory. Scoring was Nomads J. Baker, b N.
