Handing Funds Over to the Government

Kaitaia Physical Culture and Athletic Club’s Decision At the annual meeting on Wednesday evening, the Kaitaia Physical Culture and Athletic Club decided to suspend activities for the duration of the war and hand its funds, which total some £49 8/-, over to the Government as an interest free loan for “the duration and six months.” It was also decided to approach the Swimming Club to take similar action. The Swimming Club holds funds totalling in the vicinity of £4O. In his report, the President, Mr. P. Stone, traced the past season’s activities. It had been decided to have a short season ending with a gym carnival but the war had spoiled that project. As a result the Club ceased activities much earlier than it would otherwise have done. Boxing and wrestling classes had , been started through the season and j proved a great draw, the instructors, Constable F. Taylor and Mr. M. J. Coughlan often having as many as 60 pupils in an evening. The Parish Hall soon proved too small and the classes were then taken in the A. and | P. Hall. After Mr. Taylor Tiad been transferred from Kaitaia to another ! part, a tournament, was held which j was a grand success. This part of the Club’s activities was also very I successful financially. The Swimming Club At the beginning of the season the section covering swimming was severed from the Physical Culture Club and carried on activities as the Swimming Club. About £4O of the Physical Culture Club’s funds was accordingly handed over to the new body. Suspend for the Duration After a discussion upon the pres ent trend of events, the meeting de cided to suspend activities for the duration, the present comndtiee and officers retaining office until the close of the war when another meeting will be called.
