The movement of troops had shifted large masses of the population from one part of the country to another. But all of them still needed clothes, boots and shoes, food, fuel, soap, household appliances, and so on. It was true that today different firms had different problems, yet none of these could safely regard advertising as a luxury. On the contrary, it was a fundamental source of strength to each of them, not only in selling their goods, but in maintaining the goodwill established in peacetime.
