COMING-OF-AGE OF MR. ERIC SMITH

At a largely attended party-dance in Evans’ Hall, Awanui, last night (Thursday) the twenty-first birthday of Eric (known to the boys as “Wizard”) Smith was celebrated. The unanimous opinion of the guests present from all over the county, was that the party was cei’tainly one of the ones, and Awanui would be lucky if if it ever wiitnessed again such an enjoyable evening. Mi - , and Mrs. R. Smith spared no effort in making full arrangements for the guests’ enjoymet and these were fully appi’eciated Although the temperatui’e did not encourage dancing evidently the refreshments counteracted this, judging from the enthusiasm with which the various measui’es were stepped out to music by Mrs. Stitt and Mi*. C. Maxwell, with extras by Miss Joyce Christensen. Prior to the service of supper, the loyal toast was honoured after which Mr. E. R. Bird called upon Mr. C. Evans to present the key of freedom and propose the toast to the guest of honour. Eric very suitably responded. The next toast was that of the host and hostess, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, proposed by Mr. H. Switzer, and wittily responded to by Mr. Smith.

Eric was the recipient of a large number of presents from his friends
