County Basketball Association
The annual meeting of the Mangonu Basketball Association was held in Kaitaia last Saturday. The resignation of Miss M. Urlicli as Secretary was received and Miss K, Urlicli was elected to fill the vacancy. Seven teams have entered in the County competition and the draw for the first Saturday, June 6th. is as follows : At Kaitaia—Kaitaia v Pukepoto. Herekino v United. At Awanui —Awanui native v_Ahipara. Awanui a bye. At a meeting of members of school committees held at Kaeo at which there were 78 present either by proxy or in person, Mr. R. T. Wrathall, of Mangonui was unanimously nominated for the vacancy on the Auckland Education Board. Three nominations have been received for the vacancy on the Auckland Education Board. Messrs J. Elliot, Aratapu, F. B. Rowe, Kaitaia, and R. T. Wrathall, Mangonui. The election is by members of school committees and will be held on June 17th. Motor Accident at Kaiaka On Tuesday evening an accident occurred at Kaiaka when a motor lorry with a load of metal ran off the road and fell into a small creek. The lorry was driven by the owner, Mr. W, Larkins, of Peria, and with him were Messrs G. Nathan and C. Manuel. The truck came to rest in the creek bed upside down, Messrs Nathan and Larldns being pinned underneath but Mr. id omul was thrown clear and was not hurt. With difficulty the men were rescued and Mr. Nathan was taken to the Kaitaia Hospital suffering from back and neck injuries. His condition is not serious. Larkins was fortunate in receiving onlv minor injuries. The truck was d; maged practically beyond repair.
