c 1 Tlie P. W. 1). is now surveying the ground for an aerodrome at Te Hapna The County Council has been informed by the P. W. D. that the Government grants this year will he 30% higher than last year. Messrs Geard and Stensness have just completed a modern designed residence on a section in Church road, Kaitaia, for Mr. Graham. An electric light plant is now being installed in Divieh's store and billiard room in Awanui. At a meeting of the Awanui Harbour Board this week it was decided to repair the Imoys in the Harbour. The County Council sits as a Harbour Board with Mr. R. T. Wrathall as chairman. The traffic inspector, Mr. A. F. MacKenzie reporting to the County Council stated that he had collected 98 heavy traffic licenses last quarter. A number breaches of the motor regulations would he brought before next sitting of the Court. The inspector stated that he had found one man at Awanui using a konnki on a newly metalled road and he asked the Council what action he could take. The Council decided that court action should he taken against the offender.

Card Socials A 500 card evening in aid of the Kaitaia Catholic Church funds was held in Foster’s Rooms, Kaitaia, on Tuesday night, there being an exceptionally large attendance of players This was the first of a fortnightly series of each of which the scores are to be kept, and a prize will be awarded to the person with the highest score at the end of the season. The prize winners of last night’s game were Mrs. Debbie and Mr. ,T. Brewer, the consolations going to Mrs. Marovich and Mr. C. S. Puckey. Mrs. Marovich also won the competition. Supper was served at the conclusion of play. The Kaitaia Croquet Club held a card afternoon yesterday, Thursday, the hostesses being Mesdames A. G. Horsley Nield and R. R. Lewis. The prize winners were Mesdames A. Wilkinson, C, Crene and Miss D. Puckey, the consolation awards going to Mesdames A. Logan, E. Lunn and Nield. The travelling prize was gained by MesdamesA. G.Bell J. Madden and Miss M Puckey. The competition for a trophy donated by Mrs R. R. Lewis was won by Mrs C. Crene.
