Sum of £SOO to be Raised to enlarge County Hospital

Amount Guaranteed to enable work to proceed immediately A representative and enthusiastic meeting of Kaitaia business men was held on Tuesday evening to consider ways and means of raising £SOO to enable additions to the hospital when removed to Kaitaia, to he built, so as to accommodate ten extra beds; tiiis will give the hospital accommodation for 54 patients. Mr. T. H. Kenny was in the chair, and he explained to the meeting that if allowance was made for the ten extra beds now that the hospital was being rebuilt at Kaitaia, tlie cost would be £1,200, of which sum £SOO would have to be found by the Hospital Board. Tiiis extra accommodation would shortly be necessary, as not long ago it had been suggested that the Mangonui Hospital needed enlarging to accommodate the extra beds. It was most desirable that arrangements be made for the enlarging now, as if carried out later on, the estimated cost was £2,000, as against £1,200. As tlie matter was urgent it was intimated to the meeting that tlie sum of £SOO liad been guarateed by some of tlie Kaitaia business men, so that the Board could proceed at once with the work of removal and enlarging of the hospital. It was desired that tiiis sum should be raised by means of donations, and by other means, so that it would not be a charge on the Board. After the matter had been thoroughly discussed the following large and representative committee were appointed. Executive Committee—Messrs T. H. Kenny (Chairman), J. T. B. Taaffe, G. Rickard, A. G. W. Hoskin, T. S. Houston, L. J. Matthews, D. Kitchen, H. H. Thompson, J. N. Berghan, C. J. E. Barribali, J. Garton, W. Steed, C, McKinnon, D. W. Rutledge, L. Peace, W. J. E. May hill, J. T. Clark, Roy Kelly, J B. Reynolds, A. Logan, W. F. Berry, D. J. McKay. J. Walton, A. Christensen, W. Thomas, W. Metcalfe, D. Banks, S. Busby, 11. Bowman, W. F. Blanchard, W. H. Evans, K. Tynan, C. Cooper, P. Meenan, L. Veza, J. Yelavicb, G. Cosson, T. J. Fleming, G, Tyler, P. Thode, C. Jurlina, L. Jurlina, M. Hammond, K. A. Knight, A. Davey, G. Foster, D. Hudson, Parr, W. K. Langley, J. Johnston, D. S. White, M. Thornell, W. Geard and A. Wilkinson. It is tlie intention of the Committee to organise various social functions in order to raise funds, and subscription lists have already been opened.
