Tokerau Beach on New Year’s Day
The annual sports meeting was held on the Tokerau Beach on Monday, New Year's Day, there being a large number of spectators, hut the fields that faced the starter, Mr. W. Christensen, were small. The heach lends itself to the holding of a sports meeting from both the competitors’ and the spectators’ point of view, and the visit of two of the Auckland Aero Club’s planes during tjie afternoon added further interest to the day. The Kapa Maori and refreshment and ice cream booths on the ground supplied the wants of those at the gathering. The following are the results of the events run during the day, under the control of the strong committee with Mr. Simon Urlich as Chairman, and Mr. Toni Poharama as Secretary. Maiden Race, 100 yards, (6 competitors)_F. Donaldson 1, W. Thomas 2 75 yards Championship, 4 starters—J, Gardener 1, H. Yates 2 Soheroa Beach Cup, Gentries, Ist distance 100 yards—H. Y"ates 1, P. Marsh % F. Harrison 3. 2nd distance 200 yards ,j-P. Marsh 1, T. King 2, H. Yates 3. 3rd distance 300 yards—F. Harrison 1, T. iKfng 2, P. Marsh 3. P. Marsh won the Cup with 8 points, and F.
