BOXING
A boxing class under the tutorship of Mr. Keith Stewart, held its first meeting at the A. and P. Hall on Monday evening. Mr. Harry Ballantine who was responsible for forming the class reported he had succeeded in mustering a dozen pupils, but it was disappointing to find that only two thirds of this number put in an appearance for the opening evening. From the point of view of an onlooker the exhibition of the lads was most promising and with Mr. Stewart’s expert tuition they should soon gain a fair knowledge of the noble art. It is the ambition of the instructor to get the lads so efficiently instructed that they may, at an early date, stage an exhibition in the township. Should the class produce any outstanding pupils, steps may be taken to enter them for the North Auckland Championships, which are to be held at Whangarei in N ovember.
It is to be hoped that the lads will continue to attend the future classes and so enable their instructor to realize his ambition.
Among those present on Mon day evening were —E. Jameson, R. Werner, H. Ballantine, B. Ballantine, L. Atkin, M. Atkin, M. Morine, V. Smith.
