MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., presided over the above Court at Kaitaia last Friday.
CIVIL CASES
Judgment was given for plaintiff, with costs, in the following cases:-—T S Houston v Wairongoa Matui £SO/; I A Switzer v Hoey Allen £5 ; Urlich & Yuretich v Dave Curreen £4 ; Miller & Blundell v P M Mills £37 16 10. JUDGMENT SUMMONS N L Guit was ordered to pay Greville & Bramweil £l2 8 3 forthwith in default 12 days imprisonment; J Dunlop Smith ordered to pay Bell & Matthews £ll 19 8 in default II days. These were the only undefended civil cases dealt with, the list being the lightest on record. In the defended case in which A E McMahon claimed £9 12 3 from J. Stanwav for work done and material supplied plaintiff was nonsuited with costs to defendant. IMPOUNDING CASE T S Houston proceeding against James Rice, poundkeeper, for illegally impounding a cow and for failing to notify the owner in writing in accordance with Section 37 of the Impounding Act, 1908. Rice was convicted and fined 20,- Court costs 7/-, witnesses’ expeuses 27/6 and solicitor’s fee 10/6. NOXIOUS WEEDS W Pita was charged on the information of W P Dale, inspector, with failing to clear gorse from his property at Takahue and was convicted and fined 30/ and costs. On a similar charge J M Forster was convicted and fined 40/- and costs. On a charge of exposing sheep infected with lice in a public saleyard, L McKeown was fined 30/ and costs. A charge against W McKenzie of allowing pigs to wander near a slaughterhouse was dismissed. For casting offensive matter in a pnblic place Thomas Kerehoma was convicted and fined 60/- and costs. For unlawfully converting a Ford car to his own use Albert Waiters was sentenced three months’ hard labour. Alex Yuretich was ordered to comply with the terms of a maintenance order or go to gaol for one month. For selling a gun without holding a dealer’s license D. Archibald was fined 15/- and costs. Before Mr. Levien, S.M„ at the Mangonui Court on the 17th Wircmu Manuera and Tom Anderson were charged with theft of stores from a bush camp at Parapara, the property of I.awrence Rogers. Both accused were convicted and admitted to probation for two years, each to pay £3 by way of restitution and 25/each witnesses’ expenses.
