FOOTBALL.
The Kaitaia team win the B< H Shield for 1925. Congratulations! The inclement weather on Saturday last interfered with the junior fixture, only one match being played—Kaitaia 20 Oruru nil. The senior fixture, P. &'T. v. Oruru was not played. On Saturday next the schools seven-a-side tourney will be held and as 12 teams have entered competition should keen. On the 15th inst.a Probables v. Possibles match will be played at Kaitaia to select a team to visit Hokianga. The junior fixtures for Saturday next will be as above. SCHOOL GAMES. On Saturday last the Kaitaia Publie School football team played Waipapakauri on the football field at Waipapakauri. Owing to the week's dry weather the field was in good condition. The match was under the control of Mr. Smith, of Awanui The Waipapakauri team consisted of:— Frank Harrison, Wi Murray, Thompson Waipouri, Frank Hobson, Pompy Rivers Gerald Mills, Harry Bowman, Manuel Dunn, Tai Yates, Charli* Russel, George Henry, Alex Steve, Billy Macken, Pirimona Jobe, Nicholas Ujdur. The game was, on the whole, evenly contested, the tackling beiDg much above the average for the local schools. Wi Murray (W) scored in the first quarter. Not converted. Later on Thompson Waipouri !W) kicked a penalty goal I* the last quarter Stuart Msttnsws (K 1 crossed the Waipapakauri line, but the referee did not give a try as he considered that Matthews did not touch down before go. A few minutes before the end of the game Ivan Black (K) tackled Thompson Waipouri (W) and saved a sure try. The final score was Waipapakauri 6 ». Kaitaia nil.
* BASKET BALL, w The results of the basket ball matches played on the Fairburn grounds on Saturday last are as follows: Schools—Fairburn defeated Victoria Valley 18-s;'Fairburn defeated Peria 9-6 Ladies—Victoria Valley defeated Fairbum 6-4; Fairburn defeated Oruru 1-6 Oruru defeated Victoria Valley 6-4 The ladies' matches were played in the rain and mud the latter predominating to such an extent at times that the referee had a hard job to recognize the players The games were well contested as the scores ind'eate and it will be very interesting to see the results when these teams meet on a fine day. A friendly spirit prevailed throughout and although the ladies left the field in a very bedraggled condition they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The matches were refereed by Miss Gregory Mr. Harrison and Mr. Skiffington, who gave general satisfaction.
