A.A.A.

KAITAIA BRANCH. The Kaitaia Branch of the Auckland Automobile Association held its Annua! Meeting in the Library on Tuesday night. There was not a large attendance but this wasmorethan compensated by enthusiasm and businesslike suggestions. Mr. hert Brott was in the chair and read his report for the past year. From the report we make a few extracts showing the progress of the Branch, its work, and contemplated activities. At the end of the year the membership stood at 35, but from promises and increased canvassing activity this is expected to reach 60 very shortly. Mr. Walter Masters gave permission to put a beach access road through his property, and £32 was spent on work which now enables cars to get on and off the famous 90 Mile Beach on their own power. A motor picnic was held during the year, the nett amount of £23 9s. being handed over to the Mangonui Hospital. As this carries a Government subsidy of 24/- in the £ the hospital benefited to the extent of over £SO by the kindness of the Branch.

Sign posts arc to be erected at all the principal road junctions, etc., and the work will be taken in hand almost immediately.

Motor races were held on the 90 Mile Beach on March 31st, and were quite a success. There were 44 nominations. Trophies amounting to over £6O were given, in addition to donations of £34 in cash. It is hoped to hold next year’s races earlier in the year, so as to attract visitors from outside.

Mr. J. T. B.Taaffe presented the balance sheet, which disclosed a credit of just on £4O. The year was started with a balance of £2l 16s. 3d., members’ subscriptions amounted £36 155., nomination fees, gate money and donations to £76 16s. 6d. Total receipts for year £159 2s. 9d. £32 was spent in road formation, £59 10s, in stakes for sports, £23 9s. donated to hospital. Mr. J. L. Davies said that, as a new member, he desired to congratulate the Branch on the excellent results of the year’s working. The report and balance sheet were adopted on the motion of Mr. A. W. Masters, seconded by Mr. C. S. Puckey. Officers for the ensuing term were elected as follows: President—Mr. Bert S. Brott. Vice-President—Mr. C. S. Puckey. Secretary and Treasurer —Mr. J. T. B. Taaffe. Auditor—Mr. Len Mclntosh. Executive Committee—Messrs. T. Ga 11aher, A. W. Masters, J. L. Davies, A. Wilkinson, W. L. Evans, Roy Johnston. An honorarium of £5 was voted to Mr. Taaffe for his past valuable services. Mr. C. S. Puckey m»ved “That it be a recommendation to the incoming executive that next Motor Sports be at an early date in the new year.” Seconded Mr. Walter Masters, and carried. It was also resolved that it be a recommendation that a motor picnic be held on Labour Day. In a somewhat informal discussion several valuable suggestions were made. It is probable that a series of dances and picnics will be held. All present were strongly in favour of organising a motor race from Auckland to Kaitaia a few days before the sports, and at the same time, give visitors a chance to compete. A dozen sign posts are to be erected at the more important junctions in the county. In response to a request from the A. A.A. it was resolved Messrs. Brott and Puckey be a sub-committee to supply suitable matter and photos for the year book of the Association. At the request of the meeting Mr. Pollock promised to assist in the compilation. It was suggested that at next Snorte races start and finish at Waimimiha. It was resolved that honorary members be enrolled at 10/6 per annum subscription.

A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the meeting.
