PARLIAMENTARY.
From a recent Order Paper Mr. Reed (Bay of Islands) to ask the Minister of Agriculture, Whether he will arrange for returns of dairy stock and cattle to be compiled and published similar to sheep returns ? The Hon. Mr. Nosworthy (Minister of Agriculture) replied, Detailed statistics of cattle and other live-stock in each county are already published annually in the New Zealand, Gazette and in Vol. iii of Statistics of New Zealand, and an annual return of cattle in each land district is presented to Parliament. A list of individual owners of cattle is not compiled as in the case of sheep, as it is not considered that any advantage gained by the preparation of such a list would be sufficient to compensate for the additional cost involved. Mr. Reed (Bay of Islands) to ask the Minister of Agriculture, Whether the Government will procure the services of an entomologist to study the life-history of the cattle-tick in the Dominion ?
The Hon. Mr. Nosworthy (Minister of Agriculture) replied, The staff of the Department of Agriculture now includes a capable entomologist, who is already going into the life-history of the cattletick in New Zealand.
