MEMORIAL CLUB MEETING AT PERIA.
(Contributed). Only the proverbial handful turned up to this meeting on the 22nd Oct and the conveners were bitterly disappointed at the lack of enthusiasm shown in such a good cause. If the truth wasknown there is plenty sympathy here, but no ready money. Beef and wool kings have been hard hit lately, and Factory cheques are very small yet. I should reccommend end of February as being the best time to put subscription lists round. While waiting for the “handful” to gather, the “Colonel” Cr Pearson and Mr Garton were in humourous vein, and told us stories of the good old days, but our correspondent being a parson’s son cannot put the pen to them. The “Laird” was there and not to be outdone he discoursed on the merits of “Scotch” till the call of time. Mr Bell outlined the memorial scheme from its initial stages down to the present, and had a very attentive hearing. Several promises of donations in January was all the business done, but it is to be hoped when the lists come round early in the New Year that a liberal amount will go towards a deserving cause.
