CRICKET
VICTORIA VALLEY. The junior competition commences on Saturday, November I2th, when Kaitaia will visit Mangonui, and Victoria Valley to Broadwood. The Valley will be represented by A. Jones, V. Beazley, A. Rogers, A. Pearson, E. Parkinson, H. J. Switzer, D. Wallace, J. Brockbank, R. Edwards, F. Braithwaite and D. Panther, with N. Wallace, Frank Braithwaite and P.Thompson emergencies. Victoria Valley is hoping to put two teams in the junior competition, subject to the approval of the Association. The Association secretary has received official information from Auckland Suburban ef their intention to send an eleven here at Xmas, even at the expense of leaving out another centre. This news will be welcomed by all local players and enthusiasts, and those looking for rep. honors are advised to get in form. W hangarei also purposes visiting Mangonui this season. With such bright prospects it is anticipated additional interest will be taken in cricket. Although Houhora has not thus far signified their intention of joining the Association it is hoped they will come in, for on past form there are county reps, up North. KAITAIA. We held our usual practice on Saturday afternoon and a few enthusiasts rolled up. I would like to see a much bigger attendance at these practices, because in a match no man can do himself or his side justice, if he has not practised assiduously beforehand. Our second play Mangonui second next Saturday at Mangonui, and if our strongest team gets away, ought to give a good account of themselves. The following eight have been barred from playing in second-grade contests: —Wigley, Werner, Watts, Switzer, Rice, Hart, Dunn and Banks. All other players are eligible to play in either first or second-grade matches.
