FAIRBURN NEWS

A Farewell Social was tendered to Rev. F. G. Brown, in the Fairburn Church on Friday evening the 30th, inst. The Church was well filled with Members and friends of this and surrounding district. The proceedings were opened by the Congregation rising and singing, the National Anthem. The following Programme was then submitted. March, “Gloria,” Mrs J. P. Coulter; song, Violin Accom., Mr C. Foster; recitation, My Shadow, Miss Jessie Coulter; song, Home Land, Rev. F. G. Brown; J recitation, The Revenge, Rev. A. Drake: duet, Roses Underneath The Snow, Misses M. &, A. Whitehead: song scclcctv ed Mrs J. P. Coulter; recitation, Only a Pin, Master Horace Switzer; song scclected, Rev: F. G. Brown: Recitation, Not Understood, Rev. A. Drake. During the evening a stirring address was given by the Rev. A. Drake, which was listened to with rapt attention concluding by paying a high tribute to our departing Minister, speeches were also made by Messrs, W. J. Hoskin, A. Stevens, * and J. M. Dawson. Eulogising the good work accomplished by the Rev. Brown ► during his stay amongst us, and expressing the hope for continued success in the future, the last named Gentleman greatly amused the audience by giving a few incidents in which Mr Brown, had found himself sacred. A purse of money was then handed to Mr Brown, who suitably acknowledged thanking all for the gift and their appreciation and help given him during his term amongst us, also special tribute to Miss A. Whitehead, for her services as organist, who never failed to be at her post, and to the circuit stewards who were always ready with their assistance. Miss Thorne of Kaitaia kindly acted as accompanist during the evening. The whole proceedings concluding by singing “God be with you till we meet again”. The ladies then dispensed supper in their usual good style, after which a vote of thanks to all who so willingly assisted, was passed and carried by acclami ation. A meeting was held in the schoolroom on Monday,April 2nd,the object being the . formulating of a Patriotic Committee to ft deal with all matters of a patriotic nature- ~ The following ladies and gentlemen were elected. Mesdamcs Prosser, Foster,May, R.Gardiner, J.Coulter. Messrs A Wallace (Chairman) W. J. Hosking, (Sec.) A. A. Gardiner, W.G.Prosser, and A Stevens. A farewell Social and Dance to Trp., H. P. Carse, who is home on final leave takes place in the School room on Saturday night at 8, o’clock.
