TOTARA.
(From our own Correspondent.) The very inclement weather experienced during the past few weeks has been the cause of a great many coughs and colds among both adults and children. The attendance at the school fell below the average generally attained. The children of the lower classes greatly missed their former teacher, Miss A. Parker, who lately resigned her position under the Auckland Education Board. Mainly owing to the great scarcity of teachers the appointment of a successor has been very much delayed. The Board has notified the appointment of Miss J. Price, of Waima, as from the Ist September. On Wednesday, September Ist, and Thursday, 2nd, a moving-picture entertainment, conducted by Mr. O. Fair, was held in the Totara Public Hall. The pictures were very good indeed, especially that of the Empire Day celebrations in Sydney, showing 24,000 public school children drilling, manoeuvring, etc. On Thursday, September 2nd the celebrating of a double native wedding at Waihapa was the occasion of a good gathering of natives. In the evening the wedding party gave a dance in the Totara hall, which was attended not only by native friends but also by several Europeans. Totara, September 3rd 1909.
