Steamer Taeautja. — Messrs. M'Meckan, Blackwood, s.B. Tararua, James llagley, commander, arrived outside the Boulder Bank at IJ.-30 p.m. on Wednesday last, entering the harbour at three a.m. on Thursday, from Melbourne, via West Coasfc. She loft Melbourno at two p m. on the 30th May, clearing Sister's Island at 930 a.m. on the 31st. Esperij enced very fine weather for tho first three days; on the 3rd June, encountered a heavy N.E. gale and high sea, and was obliged to keep the engines going slow for eighteen hours ; on the 4th the gale moderated, and arrived off Hokitika at nine a.m. on the sth. The bar being bad, was not tendered until three p.m. on the 7th, •when <he Waipara came out for passengors, and after landing them, returned for cargo. After transhipping eighty-two tons, left for Nolson on the Bth. Had thiok dirty weather along tho Coast, and arrived here as abovo. Safety of the Oakbodia. — This vessel, which at the time of the departure of tiie last mail had been out 155 days from Auckland, subsequently arrived in the Thames. News of her arrival was telegraphed to G-aHo for transmission to Messrs. Bethune and Hunter, of Wellington. Tho Russian corvette Barazin was at Hobart Town. Several of the officers were visitors at Government House on the 24th of May, on tho occasion of a ball in honour to the Queen.
