Thursday, November 27. Present ; Mr. Webb, in the chair, Messrs. Wright, Bentley, Graham, Bait, and Aitken, The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. It was resolved that the members of the Board visit; the upper portion of Bridge-street, and give instructions for altering the specification of the work required to be done there, and that tenders for performing the work be invited. A letter was read from Mr. Levien stating that he •greed to pay the sum required by the Board, for the culvert in Trafalgar-square. The rate for the current year was then discussed. Mr. Sait moved "That the rate levied be one penny in the pound," but, the motion not being •econded, it was not put from the chair. Mr. Wright moved " That the rate be three farthings in the pound." Mr. Aitken seconded the motion which was adopted, there being but one dissentient. The Chaibman called attention to the manner in which the contract work in Nile-street, waa being performed, and that, as the earth was thrown in large clods, the road would be liable to sink considerably after rain. Mr. Graham applied, on behalf of Mr. Rout and others, for the Board to make good a private street leading from Trafalgar-square to Hardy-street, and ■tated that the inhabitants would subscribe towards the cost of the same at the rate of sixpence per foot frontage. The Overseer was instructed to examine the street aud report on the cost of making it up. Thursday, December 4. Present : Mr. Webb, in the chair, Messrs. Bentley, Everett, Aitken, Sait, and Graham. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. An amended specification of the work required to be done in Bridge-street was read and approved of. The Chairman reported that some members of the Board had examined the road in Trafalgar-square, near Mr. D. Moore's, and recommended that the surplus itnff from ihe street between Mr# Moore's sad

Mrs. Taylor's should bo so disposed of as to make a I gradient level from Mr. Moore's property ; and that the hill between Mr. Moore's gate and Trafalgar-, squnre should be cut down and the stuff taken to the east corner of the square. Mr. Bentley proposed "That the work on the enst side of the square be proceeded with, and that the consideration of the other work recommended be deferred until next meeting." Mr. Sait seconded the resolution, which was unanimously adopted. The proposal for making up a road through Mr. Baigcnt's acre, from Hardy-street to Trafalgar-square, was again considered, and it was stated that subscriptions to the amount of £19 10s., in part payment of the work, would be received. The Overseer stated that he had set the road out and considered that it would take about £30 to make it up ; but that to partially do the work would take about £20. After some discussion, in the course of which it was 6tated that to undertake such work would establish n bad precedent, it was resolved— "That, until the road is properly formed and dedicated to the public, the Board decline to interfere with it." A letter was received from Mr. Bray and others, calling attention to the fact that Mr. Wells was fencing in his land on tho Mud Flat, and stopping up an old water-course, and that it was likely their property would be injuriously affected. It was proposed by Mr. Aitken, seconded by Mr. Bentley, and unanimously adopted — " That a deputation be appointed to inspect tha place, and ascertain the law upon the subject; such deputation to consist of the me.nbers of the Board then present." An application from Messrs. Lukins and Cheeseman, for permitting them to remove the boarding from the aide of the Haven-road, in order to use it outside the work now being done by them on that road, was granted on the usual terms. Mr. Aitken called attention to Mr. Wilkinson's building in Selwyn Place. He stated that a drain was being made from the water closet into the ditch. After some discussion, the former minute on the subject was referred to, and it was found that the Board had power to withdraw their permission, should the drain become a nuisance. Mr. Guaham applied on behalf of Mr. W. Turner, for permission to use the winch belonging to the Board, for pile-driving at Collingwood bridge. Permission was granted on the usual condition, and at a rental of two shillings per week for its use. The Board then adjourned.
