NELSON BOARD OF WORKS.
Thhbsdat, October 9. Present: Mr. Webb, in the chair, Messrs. Everett, Wright, Beutley, Graham, Aitken, and Sait. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Mr. Sait reported that he and Mr. Bentley had viewed Osman's work in Mary Ann-street, and were well satisfied with it. The Sbceetaby reported an application from Mr. Bonnington, for permission to erect a post for horses, on the footpath in front of Messrs. Priohord and Bonnington's premisos, in Trafalgar-street. Permission granted on the usual terms. The Secuetaky reported an application from Mr. Pratt, for permission to cut a ditch on the road in front of hia property in Van Diemen's-street. Permission granted, but the work to be done under the direction of tlio Overseer. Permission was granted to Mr. Percy, to take a few louds of stufffrom the street adjoining his property, provided that it was removed under tho direction of the Overseer. It was also resolved that the Overseer see that persons who have taken turf from the streets, do place thereon an equal amount of gravel. A letter was read from Mr. Betts, etating that the fire engine- had been properly repnired, that the fire brigade did not now exist, and asking the Board to take steps with regard to it. The Chairman called attention to the necessity of replacing the culvert near the old Wesleyan Chapel by a larger one. Consideration deferred. The Ovkkseer requested instructions with respect to forming a portion of Nile-street. A discussion ensued. Mr. Bentley moved, " That the portion of street between Alton-street and the river be formed by the men in the employ of the Board." Mr. Eveuett seconded the motion. Mr. Aiteen moved, as an amendment, " That this work be deferred until the whole of the street can be let by contract." This amendment was not seconded. Original motion put and agreed to, with one dissentient. It was resolved " That the Overseer prepare an estimate of the probable cost of making good the remaining portion of Nile-street." The Board then adjourned till Thursday, October 16.
