A SERIES of EIGHT LECTURES Explanatory of the THEORY OF CELESTIAL MOTION Will be delivered in the Nelson Public School Room, Bridge-street, by T. W. RICHARDSON, Assistant Master. The INTRODUCTORY LECTURE will be given on FRIDAY EVENING NEXT, 25th instant, commencing at Half-past Seven o'clock. SYNOPSIS. Introduction — existence of celestial motion unquestionable — necessity of investigation — is capable of being explained and proved — opposed to the evidence of the eyes— what is meant by celestial bodies, and their motions — the truths of astronomy not opposed to divine revelation — true theory unknown to the ancients — erroneous opinions thereon hi former ages — great antiquity of astronomy proved, from the Bible — explanation of tho celestial globe — the constellations — diagrams — the earth's passage round the feun — stars always visible— solar system — invention of the telescope — causes of celestial motion discovered by Sir Isaac Newton — sizes and orbits of the planets cannot be shown by orreries or diagrams — subject proposed to investigate the proofs by which the theory of celestial motion is supported — the benefit to be obtained by the acquisition of this knowledge. As these Lectures are principally intended for the instruction of the junior branches, all children above eight years of age will be admitted, whether boys or girls. The parents and public generally are respectfully invited, and will bo accommodated to the extent the School Room admits. It is intended to deliver a Lecture every alternate FRIDAY until the course is completed, attended w itli diagrams and familiar illustrations.
