RACECOURSE ACCIDENTS

COMPENSATION SUGGESTED (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) Wellington, Aug. 30. Injuries suffered by riders and drivers in accidents on racecourses were the basis of a notice of question in the Legislative Council by the Hon. G. R. Hunter (Christchurch). He asked the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Parry), through the Leader of the Council (Mr McLagan), whether the Minister would give consideration to providing compensation to riders and drivers who were injured. A note to the question said that at a recent meeting at Addington nine out of 14 horses fell and several drivers were injured, though none of them seriousely. Some of the drivers were married men with homes to keep up, and it was considered that they should be protected in any case of accident.
