ALLOCATION OF PETROL
NO IMMEDIATE CHANGE LIKELY (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) Wellington. This Day No change in the present allocation of petrol for private motorists is likely in the meantime. Inquiries made this morning showed that the No. 3 coupon current for September will entitle holders to double the face value. Optimistic statements in Australia bv the Minister of Supply. Senator Ashley. regarding the abolition of petrol rationing are not echoed in official circles in Wellington. It was pointed out that as far as New Zealand is concerned the position has not changed from that disclosed in the statement made by the Minister of Supply (Mr Sullivan) on Saturday, when he announced *the restoration of small licenses. In that statement Mr Sullivan said that advice from the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs emphasised that there were heavy oil luel obligations, especially in relation to the liberated areas and the maintenance of the armies of occupation. Until the position is finalised with Britain the private motorists’ allowance must necessarily remain at double the face value of coupons.
