FIGHTING ON BOUGAINVILLE
FLARE-UP AFTER FIVE MONTHS Sydney, This Day Land fighting has flared up again Bougainville, northern Solomons. Amt riean troops on Thursday engaged anese patrols north and east of the bin Allied base of Torokina, on the ea;-,t coast of Bougainville This is the first land action reported on BougainviUe for five monhs. A force of 20,000 Japanese is officially estimated to be isolaed on the island. They have no hope of escape. For months Allied bombers have carried ou a war of attrition against these Japanese Enemy forces encountered on Thursday were repulsed after suffering casualties.—P.A.
