CHRISTMAS REMITTANCES

SERVICE PERSONNEL OVERSEAS (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) Wellington, Sept. 30. Arrangements similar to last year have been made in regard to the forwarding of remittances to servicemen and servicewomen overseas for this Christmas and New Year period, the Minister of Finance (Mr Nash) announced to-day. The maximum amoymt that may be remitted overseas in any one year is £4O New Zealand currency. “Many relatives and friends of person, nel serving overseas take the opportunity of forwarding remittances as Christmas gifts,” said Mr Nash, “and in view of the large number of remittances involved I would urge that money be lodged at a bank before 25th November. In accordance with existing arrangements the receiving bank will forward a bank receipt to the service department concerned. I would remind intending remitters that with regard to members of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. the remittance year for Ist and! 2nd Echelon troops commences in June and for all other personnel as from the date of embarkation. In the case of those who have again gone overseas the year commences as from the date of re-em-barkation.’ ’
