RICHMOND W.D.F.U.
MEMBERS’ MONTHLY METING The September meeting of the Richmond W.D.F.U. was held recently, Mrs Brown, the vice-president, presiding over a fair attendance of members. A vote of sympathy with Mrs Hockey in the loss of her son was passed, members standing as a mark of respect. The roll call was well answered and a collection of jams, pickles, sauces, etc., was handed in for a hamper for the Fighting Services Club. Invitations were received to an afternoon in Nelson, and to the Appleby W.D. birthday party. It was reported that the annual ball had been both a social and financial success. During the afternoon questions which had previously been handed in were discussed by all members, some interesting points were raised. One of the questions asked was “Is the lack of New Zealand women in Parliament and public places, due to lack of courage or apathy?” Mrs Lewis sang two solos and led members in the singing of the W.D. song. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Gilbert, Gardiner. Poole, Miller, Norris. McMurtry and Miss Haycock.
