FIGHTING SERVICES CLUB

WEEK-END ACTIVITIES The voluntary workers at the Fighting Services’ Club had a busy weekend catering for the large numbers of men and women of the armed forces who visited the club. At tea time on Saturday 136 meals were se-ved. 79 on Sunday for lunch, and 186 for tea. To feed all these hungry guests large auantities of food were required and several generous donations which were sent in were greatly appreciated by the committee.

The Richmond W.D.F.U. contributed a well-stocked hamper containing such special treats for servicemen as homemade pikelets, scones, cakes, and a quantity of cream, as we'l as assorted groceries, eggs, jams, pickles and sauces. Sliced bacon was sent in by a Wakapuaka resident. The club has recently been experiencing difficulty in procuring sufficient supplies of vegetables .and two sacks of cauliflowers received from Park Davis Trading Coy., leeks and carrots donated for the week-end were most acceptable Members of the Toe H League of Women Helpers assisted in preparing and serving luncheon cn Sunday. Last week this duty was undertaken by merftbers of St. Mary's branch of th® W.W.S.A.

There was a good attendance at the dance held at the club on Saturday evening and servicemen and their partners enjoyed a pleasant programme, which included a number of novelties. Two Air Force visitors at the piano provided excellent music.
